October Celebrations

Computer Learning Month

Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat are apps where we live our lives, but do you remember when laptops, tablets, and flip phones were new? They all evolved after desktop computers became commonplace and changed the world. October is Computer Learning Month, and in honor of that, we encourage members of our apartment community to learn something new — try a new app, learn a new program, build a new website — it’s all about the technology!

Movie Suggestions

A Star is Born

A musician helps a young singer and actress find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral. Opening in theatres October 5th.

The Hate U Give

“Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what's right.” Don’t miss this timely movie, adapted from Angie Thomas’ book of the same name. Opens in theaters October 19th.

Indivisible

Head to the theatre October 26th to see this drama. “Indivisible is the extraordinary true story of Army Chaplain Darren Turner and his wife Heather, whose lives are fully devoted to serving God, family and country. But when war etches deep battle scars-both overseas and on the home front-the Turners' rock-solid marriage is shaken to its core.”

Book Suggestions

Back Talk by Danielle Lazarin

“Through stories that are at once empathetic and unexpected, these women and girls defiantly push the boundaries between selfishness and self-possession. Fantastically written with a fresh voice and bold honesty, Back Talk examines the cultural narrowness of what it means to want as a woman.”

Beautiful Exiles by Meg Waite Clayton

“Key West, 1936. Headstrong, accomplished journalist Martha Gellhorn is confident with words but less so with men when she meets disheveled literary titan Ernest Hemingway in a dive bar. Their friendship—forged over writing, talk, and family dinners—flourishes into something undeniable in Madrid while they’re covering the Spanish Civil War.”
